Briefly Damp, Dry Again

Even tho we had quite a cloudy, cool, raw, drizzly day still a great Patriot’s Day/Marathon Monday. I’m sure the runners would much prefer today’s weather over the record heat we had last week! As for the rain, it was caused by an area of Low Pressure way out west in Michigan but was/is able to exert its influence on our weather with the clouds, drizzle and fog. Even tho it appeared to rain the entire day, most towns only picked up around 0.10″ of rain or less! When you look at the month of April, 7 of the 17 days have featured some sort of rain occurring (rain, drizzle, mist)But when you take a closer look at those “green squares”, days with rain, you see this…Not much meaningful rainfall so far this month. Moving forward, I think we are dry for the rest of the week until perhaps Sunday. Tomorrow is brighter than today but not a brilliant sunshine-y day either…We’ll start with sunshine during the early morning hours and then see ...Police investigating after shots fired in Nashua, NH neighborhood

Five-time All-Star Giancarlo Stanton will miss four to six weeks after an MRI revealed a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, according to the Athletic.Stanton was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday and the Yankees recalled top prospect Oswald Peraza in a corresponding roster move. But, the MRI showed that manager Aaron Boone will be without one of his top players for more than 10 days.“He worked very hard to try and avoid these things,” Boone said Sunday about the slugger’s injuries. “But, unfortunately it’s something that’s happened with him.”The injury occurred while Stanton was decelerating after hitting a double in Saturday’s win over the Minnesota Twins, according to Boone.Stanton missing time due to injuries has become as common theme for the former MVP.In 2019, the slugger played just 18 regular-season games while dealing with a myriad of injuries. By MARGARET STAFFORD and JIM SALTER (Associated Press)KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — An 85-year-old white man who shot a Black teen at his front door in Kansas City, Missouri, last week has been charged with armed assault, and the Clay County prosecutor said Monday there was a racial component to the case.Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Thompson said at a news conference that Andrew Lester shot 16-year-old Ralph Yarl, who is recovering at home after being released from the hospital on Sunday. When asked if anything was said between Lester and Yarl that made Thompson believe the shooting was racially motivated, Thompson said nothing like that is indicated in charging documents.“We understand how frustrating this has been but I can assure the criminal justice system is working and will continue to work,” Thompson said at a news conference.Yarl was supposed to pick up his two younger brothers last week when he approached the wrong house. Congressional lawmakers have set themselves on a collision course over the debt ceiling after the Republican Speaker of the House said an increase without cuts won’t fly only to have House Democrats demand an end to what they’re calling political theater.“Once again, Speaker McCarthy and the GOP are choosing Wall Street over Main Street and hard-working families. Make no mistake: the recklessness on display today directly endangers the financial security of the American people,” House Minority Whip Katherine Clark said in a Monday statement. The Revere Democrat, the second ranking liberal in the House, was responding to a morning assertion by California Rep. Kevin McCarthy in which the Bakersfield Republican said conservatives controlling the lower chamber would not raise the debt ceiling without also attempting to address other concerns.“In the coming weeks, the House will vote on a bill to lift the debt ceiling into the next year, save taxpayers trillions of dollars, make us less ...Watchdogs, progressives at odds over tax cut plans

The state’s fiscal watch dogs mostly responded to proposals from the House and governor to lower taxes with cautious optimism, setting them at odds with the chagrin displayed by progressive members of state leadership’s own party.“Lawmakers should support Gov. Healey’s proposals to reduce the short-term capital gains tax rate and raise the level at which the estate tax kicks in,” Eileen McAnneny, a senior fellow in economic opportunity at Pioneer Institute in Boston wrote in a Monday op-ed published in the Boston Business journal.Gov. Maura Healey, at the end of February, offered a plan to cut about $750 million in revenue from the state’s coffers in 2024 and nearly $1 billion after that by giving renters, seniors, and parents significant tax breaks. She also proposed a cut to the short term capital gains tax and the estate tax, both of which were also offered by her predecessor last year.Lawmakers in the House and Senate were not inclined to include former Gov. The modern-day Babe Ruth took the mound at Fenway Park on Marathon Monday, only to be rained out of the game after two innings. Why should Boston continued to be punished for the sins of Harry Frazee?A total of 34,942 people paid to come to Major League Baseball’s oldest ballpark to see Shohei Ohtani’s only start in Boston this year, and were rewarded with over two hours of rain delays, a game over three hours, and a 5-4 loss for the Red Sox.The game began 56 minutes late and went into a second break in the top of the third. In between, Ohtani collected two hits for his side and pitched two hitless innings against the home team, with an earned run, one walk, two wild pitches, and three strikeouts. His hardest pitch of the game was a 98.4 mph four-seam fastball to Team Japan teammate Masataka Yoshida, who swung for a strike. After an hour and 25-minute rain delay, the game resumed, but the starters’ days were over. SAN DIEGO -- "Gray-pril" continues as we start and end this Monday under cloudy skies and cool weather.Stronger onshore flow in San Diego is due to a low-pressure system well to the north of us and will bring us cloudy, cool and breezy weather at the beginning of the week.A deep marine layer has produced some patchy drizzle and morning mist and could do so again overnight into Tuesday morning. Barely any clearing for beaches and inland valleys which brought us unseasonably cooler temperatures.Tuesday is shaping up to be the coolest day of the week with low-60's at the coast, mid-60's inland, low-60's for mountains and low-80's in the deserts. It's possible the marine layer won't have as much moisture Tuesday with only partial clearing expected. Beaches may actually get more clearing than inland valleys in what's known as "reverse clearing."Winds will peak Tuesday as a Wind Advisory in effect for mountains and deserts where west winds 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts up to 60 are e...Latest news
